Early Decision and Early Action deadlines fall on November 1 of senior year — just two months after senior year begins. That means the college list, the personal statement, and the strongest SAT score all need to be substantially complete by the end of junior year. Working backward, sophomore year and the summer before junior year are the natural starting points — while the schedule still has room.
